Local governments around the globe are eager to encourage the growth of new business start-ups. Many create special local initiatives, such as business incubators, business management training, and accelerator programs. As useful as these initiatives can be, they overlook the most significant local resource: community youth.
Our parents aspirational jobs included becoming a doctor or a lawyer. Being an entrepreneur is an aspirational job for today's youth. It has never been easier to start a business. We are living in the golden age of the entrepreneur.
Unfortunately, there is a lack of educational focus for our primary and secondary school students in this space.
The YEDI program solves this problem.

How It Works
We know that in-person learning is still the most effective way to transfer knowledge. We also know that to harvest the long-term benefits, we need to 'anchor' this knowledge in the context of the local community.
Our program leverages the existing local entrepreneurs and businesses in your community. Theses women and men provide not only their valuable time sharing their entrepreneurial journeys and insights, but they also serve as a host to our class. Their businesses become our classrooms. Their experiences become our textbooks.
We learn by doing and doing is how we learn. We meet once a week, for two hours, for eight weeks at a different local business. The local business becomes our classroom. The founder's experiences become our text books. We use the Lean Canvas to deliver an actionable and entrepreneurial based business plan. We focus on problems, solutions, key metrics and competitive advantages. The Lean Canvas is an adaptation of the Business Model Canvas by Alexander Osterwalder which Ash Maurya created in the Lean Startup spirit (Fast, Concise and Effective startup).

Local government can stimulate innovation, productivity and competitiveness and make it easier for firms to operate and grow.
